New Patients

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Starting care at a new clinic can feel uncertain. Our goal is to make your first visit clear, comfortable, and productive from the moment you arrive.

Appointments are unhurried and focused on understanding your symptoms, health history, and goals so care can be tailored to your specific situation. No referral is required.

A Thorough, Personalized Evaluation

Your practitioner will begin by reviewing your health history and discussing your current concerns in detail. This conversation helps identify patterns, contributing factors, and priorities for care.

A focused physical assessment may be performed when relevant, especially for pain, mobility, or neurological concerns.

You will have time to ask questions and discuss what you hope to achieve with treatment.

Treatment During the First Visit (When Appropriate)

In most cases, treatment is provided at the initial appointment.

Acupuncture uses sterile, single-use needles that are extremely thin. Many patients describe the sensation as mild or barely noticeable. Treatment takes place in a quiet, private room where you can rest comfortably.

Most patients find treatment deeply relaxing, and many fall asleep.

A Clear Plan Moving Forward

Before you leave, your practitioner will discuss next steps, which may include:

Recommendations are individualized based on symptom duration, severity, overall health, and response to treatment.

Safety and Professional Standards

Your care is provided by licensed acupuncturists with extensive training.

We maintain strict clinical standards, including:

  • Sterile, single-use needles

  • Clean Needle Technique certification

  • Private treatment rooms

  • Care adjusted to your comfort level

  • A calm, medically oriented environment

If acupuncture is unlikely to address your concerns, or if another type of care would be more appropriate, we will discuss this openly and help direct you to an appropriate clinician when possible.

You will not be encouraged to pursue treatment that is not in your best interest.

Comfort, Privacy, and Practical Details

Your comfort and privacy are a priority throughout the visit.

Clothing:
Loose, comfortable clothing is helpful but not required. Treatments are performed with clothing on. Areas being treated are accessed in a respectful, professional manner.

Privacy:
All treatments take place in private rooms. You will never be treated in a shared or open space.

Visit length:
Initial visits for adults typically last about 60–75 minutes. Follow-up visits are shorter.

Appointments for teens, children, and infants are usually brief and adjusted to age, comfort, and tolerance. A parent or guardian may remain in the room for minors while the practitioner is present.

Treatment Experience & Comfort

Most patients find acupuncture deeply calming. Many rest or fall asleep during treatment.

You will remain comfortably positioned on a padded treatment table.

Time on the table:
Treatment time is individualized based on your needs, comfort, and response.

Warmth and comfort:
Heated tables, warming lamps, and pillows are available to help you stay comfortable.

If you need assistance:
A call button is provided so you can reach your practitioner at any time.

Sound and environment:
You may rest quietly, listen to music, or use headphones if you prefer to block out normal clinic sounds.

Policies, Insurance, and Daily Activities

Our goal is to make care straightforward, flexible, and easy to integrate into your life.

No contracts or prepaid packages
Treatment is provided on a visit-by-visit basis. You are not required to commit to a set number of sessions in advance.

Insurance reimbursement (superbills)
We provide detailed receipts (“superbills”) that you may submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan. We recommend contacting your insurance company to know exactly what conditions they will reimburse.

Complementary to other care
Acupuncture can typically be received alongside medical care, physical therapy, chiropractic care, counseling, or other treatments. Please inform us of all current care providers so treatment can be appropriate.

Normal activities may continue
Most patients return to their usual daily activities immediately after treatment, including work, school, exercise, and normal routines, unless advised otherwise for a specific situation.

When Patients Often Seek Care

Many people come to our clinic when symptoms are new, persistent, or not improving as expected. Others are looking for non-drug options or additional support alongside medical care.

You do not need a diagnosis to schedule.
