 Pain

Acupuncture for pain that keeps coming back, hasn't fully resolved, or doesn't respond the way it should

Pain is supposed to get better. After an injury, after physical therapy, after treatment — the expectation is that things improve. But for a lot of people that's not how it goes. The pain comes back. Or it never fully went away. Or it's been managed for so long that recovery stopped feeling like a realistic goal.

Acupuncture works differently than most pain treatments. It addresses the nerve irritation, deep muscular guarding, and inflammatory patterns that keep pain locked in — not just the surface symptoms. It works for new injuries and long-standing conditions. You don't need a referral, a diagnosis, or a complicated history to get started.

Not sure if this is right for you? Start with a free 15-minute phone call — we'll tell you honestly whether acupuncture makes sense for your case.

WHAT WE COMMONLY SEE

Back and spine pain

Low back pain, sciatica, pain with sitting, standing, or activity — including post-surgical cases and disc-related nerve pain

Neck and shoulder pain

Stiffness, muscle spasm, restricted movement, and headaches that trace back to the neck

Joint pain

Knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, wrist, or ankle — including pain that worsens with use or limits normal activity

Nerve symptoms

Tingling, numbness, burning, or shooting pain — especially when the cause is unclear or imaging is normal

Post-injury pain

Symptoms that linger after sprains, accidents, or sports injuries — even after initial healing

Recurring flare-ups

Pain that keeps coming back without a clear trigger, or that fluctuates without explanation

HOW ACUPUNCTURE APPROACHES PAIN

Most chronic pain involves more than one layer. There's the obvious part — the ache, the restricted movement, the daily discomfort. But underneath that there's usually deep muscular guarding, irritated nerve pathways, and reduced circulation to tissue that's been under chronic strain.

That's why surface treatments only go so far. Massage relaxes superficial muscles but doesn't reach deeper layers. Injections reduce local inflammation but don't address the neuromuscular pattern recreating it. Rest removes the aggravating factor temporarily but the pattern returns when activity resumes.

Acupuncture works on all of those layers simultaneously — reaching deep muscles that are difficult to access manually, calming irritated nerve pathways, reducing local inflammation, and addressing the compensation patterns that develop around long-standing pain. Treatment is adjusted based on your specific response, not a fixed protocol.

WHETHER YOU'RE NEW TO ACUPUNCTURE OR HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING

Some patients come to us early — a few weeks into a new injury, wanting to recover faster and avoid a longer problem. Others have been dealing with pain for years and have run out of ideas.

We see both, and everything in between. You don't need a complicated history to benefit from acupuncture. You just need pain that's interfering with your life and a willingness to try a different approach.

"After my stroke, my right hand barely moved. I'd finished physical therapy but still couldn't button a shirt. Within six weeks of acupuncture here, I regained steady grip strength and coordination. My neurologist was impressed by the progress." — Brac, Scottsdale

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need a referral or diagnosis? No. You can book directly without a referral, imaging, or confirmed diagnosis.

What if I've already tried acupuncture and it didn't help? Worth discussing before you decide it won't work. Acupuncture outcomes vary significantly based on technique, case complexity, and treatment frequency. We're happy to talk through your previous experience on a free call before you commit to anything.

Does it hurt? Most patients are surprised by how little they feel. Acupuncture needles are very fine — most people describe mild pressure or a brief sensation, not pain. Needle anxiety is common and something we work with regularly.

Do you take insurance? We are a cash-pay practice. We provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement and HSA/FSA cards are accepted. Follow-up visits are $135.
